Command presence, precision performance, and strength under extreme duress are defining attributes of Dr. Troy Neufeld’s leadership performance in the military. After fifteen years of military service as an Infantry Officer, Dr. Neufeld had established a secure, comfortable niche as a leader specializing in parachuting and reconnaissance. But, he always felt something was missing. His journey in the military began when he chose the challenge, adventure, and athletic opportunity offered by the Royal Military College (RMC) of Canada. His military career has been blessed with many incredible experiences and opportunity has taken him to Bosnia-Herzegovinia, Japan, Iceland, and other remote locations around the world. However, despite all of the success achieved there was always an underlying desire to pursue the study of health and wellness. With his characteristic drive and determination Dr. Neufeld pursued this life long dream and he is now a Medical Doctor graduate of the McMaster Michael G. Degroote School of Medicine, Hamilton, ON.
Dr. Troy Neufeld has utilized his medical doctor education to learn the best of allopathic medicine while also embracing alternative modalities. His specialty in Medical Acupuncture was acquired through the McMaster University Contemporary Medical Acupuncture program. At Nova Health he provides a biomedical approach to traditional acupuncture that is highly effective in a wide range of clinical applications, from pain management problems to functional disturbances. Dr. Neufeld is running his Medical Acupuncture Clinic while he completes his Family Medicine Residency at Queen’s University, Kingston, ON.
Blessed with an amazing wife and three beautiful daughters, Dr. Neufeld continues to enjoy a very active lifestyle. Uses of Hypnotherapy
If hypnotherapy brings to mind someone at a comedy club making "hypnotized" volunteers in the audience do foolish things, think again.
Hypnotherapy is far from that; that is the image of "stage hypnotists" who engage in unethical practices. Hypnotherapy is a technique whereby a therapist helps a person enter a meditative or trance like state to help them heal. The use of hypnotic states put the mind at ease and allows new, helpful suggestions to take root in a person's life. It is used for a variety of conditions.
Conditions for which Dr. Marin primarily provides hypnotherapy include: irritable bowel syndrome, anxiety, depression, sleeping difficulties, weight loss, chronic pain, preparing for medical procedures, phobias, and fibromyalgia.
Dr. Marin can also use hypnotherapy for unhelpful habits such as smoking, alcohol and drug addictions, marijuana overuse, and compulsive eating, gambling or spending. Hypnotherapy can assist with increasing motivation and can also be used in assisting people with spiritual self actualization.
Typical Session
Usually it is necessary to meet for 90 minutes at a first visit. During this time, in depth background information is collected as this helps with developing a hypnosis program most appropriate for each person. Goals of care are discussed. Some introduction to hypnosis is done. Hypnosis is not about the therapist controlling the patient. Rather, it is about the therapist facilitating an inner experience in the patent's mind.
Subsequent sessions are usually 60 minutes long with 20 - 40 minutes spent doing hypnosis. Between sessions people are given practice guidelines to do self-hypnosis at home. Sometimes the hypnosis in clinic is recorded and a copy is given to the patient to listen to at home. Usually it will take multiple sessions and home practice to achieve the goals set out at the beginning of the treatment. The success of hypnotherapy will vary depending on the condition being treated, the amount of home practice, and individual differences between people. Almost everyone who comes to a qualified hypnotherapist, such as Dr. Marin, will be able to enter a hypnotic state and receive benefit from it.
